Kendrick Lamar Says Hes Not Working On An Album Right Now Contrary To Some Reports

In 2018, Kendrick Lamar made history when he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in music, grabbing eight Grammy nominations for his Black Panther: The Album, as well as innumerable accolades and praise from critics and fans alike. Currently, Kendrick is the biggest rapper in the world.

As 2018 comes to a close, however, many of the rapper’s fans are curious about what he has been up to lately. The Los Angeles Times reported on the Compton artist in a profile recently, confirming that Kendrick is actually not working on a record right now.

The excerpt featured by Yahoo.com explained that Kendrick was “friendly but cryptic,” adding that someone in the background said he would be going to the studio afterward.

The CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, said to fans that Kendrick wouldn’t be coming out with a new record anytime soon. In September, Anthony told fans not to expect any new material for at least another year or two.

Rather than discussing his future artistic output, Lamar spent a majority of the interview talking about the Black Panther record, on which he collaborated with Ryan Coogler.

Currently, Kendrick is in talks for receiving the Golden Globe for Best Original Song In A Motion Picture  for his work with SZA in “All The Stars.” During his chat with the LA Times, Kendrick said, “I don’t know what I’ll say If I win.”

Kendrick told the reporter that he normally just says the first thing that comes to his mind, rather than rehearsing a speech of some kind. “It’s just a great thing to know that these bodies of work come from a simple thought and you put that simple though down on wax,” and everything just falls into place from there, the rapper remarked.

As it was previously reported, Kendrick’s last album, D*MN, was arguably the most talked about album of the year. It won the 60th Annual Grammy Awards’ accolade for Best Rap Album, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Music, establishing itself as the first non-jazz/classical record to receive the honor.
