She was 14 years old when her father passed away.
She made her acting breakthrough by playing Dina Sharma (Suhani’s sister) in the 2002 Hindi-language romantic drama film Saathiya, starring Rani Mukerji and Vivek Oberoi.
Alongside Konkona Sen Sharma, Atul Kulkarni, Tara Sharma, Anju Mahendru, and Boman Irani, Sandhya Mridul co-starred as Pearl Sequeira (an air hostess who aims to marry a rich man so that she can have a lavish, exciting lifestyle) in the 2005 drama film Page 3. For this role, she won the BFJA Award for “Best Supporting Actress (Hindi)” as well as got nominated for a Filmfare Award in the “Best Supporting Actress” category.
In 2007, she appeared as a contestant on the 2nd season of the Hindi-language reality television show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and became the season’s runner-up, with Prachi Desai becoming the winner of the show. The entire event attracted controversy as judge Urmila Matondkar declared that Mridul should have won and there were allegations of interference in deciding the winner. Sandhya Mridul brought to life the character of Monali in the 2014 erotic horror thriller film Ragini MMS 2, a sequel to the 2011 horror movie Ragini MMS. In the film, she had a kissing scene with Sunny Leone.
