Thirteenth Doctor's New Costume Revealed

Publish date: 2024-06-26

Ahead of the Thirteenth Doctor’s arrival at the end of the year, the BBC have finally given Doctor Who fans a glimpse at the Time Lord’s new style.

The first promo picture shows The Doctor sporting a striped top with blue culottes and socks, yellow braces, brown boots and an oversized jacket to finish off the look.

But, The Doctor isn’t the only one getting a make over – the TARDIS has also been slightly redesigned with the sign’s colours being inverted and the St John’s Ambulance logo removed. We are yet to see what the new interior design will be for the police box.

Fan Response

The new revelation has attracted some mixed reviews from fans on social media:

she's wearing all different decades of fashion altogether and making it work spectacularly, i am in awe

The Sixth Doctor himself, Colin Baker, shared his thoughts on the new outfit too:

Love it. Great look. Bring it on

A lot of fans have also noticed the costume’s resemblance to that of past Doctors. From the long jacket worn by the Tenth Doctor, to the bold coloured stripes matching the Fourth Doctor’s scarf, it’s clear to see where inspiration for the quirky, bright coloured outfit came from:

Jodie's outfit actually feels to me like a perfect successor to the 80s Classic Doctor aesthetic!
If she was the (hypothetical) Eighth Doctor in the early 90s, she would have blended in perfectly with the colours and the eclectic style. All she needs is question marks! #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/ZLoZdH6R9B

I don’t know if it’s the Tennant-ish trench coat or the Smith-ish funky accessory…

She… looks like the Doctor. @bbcdoctorwho nailed it. https://t.co/7aPX0YZNK3

The New Doctor

Jodie Whittaker was announced earlier this year as the first female Doctor, who will soon be replacing Peter Capaldi as the much loved Time Lord. She will be joined by three companions: Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yasmin.

Whittaker will make her first appearance as The Doctor following the 12th Doctor’s regeneration in this year’s Christmas special, Twice Upon a Time.

Her first series is set to air in Autumn next year.
