He was later taken ninth overall by the NHL's Anaheim Ducks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft after committing to play for Boston University in 2019-2020. In January 2021, he won the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championships with the United States team. He was named the World Juniors MVP, and tied the Team USA points record during the tournament.
