WA man accused of Scarborough baseball bat rampage behind bars in Perth
A man charged over a rampage on a busy main road while allegedly wielding a baseball bat has missed a court appearance due to Covid concerns.
Police allege Ross Cameron Males carried out the attack on vehicles in Perth’s northern entertainment precinct of Scarborough on Christmas Eve.
Video of the incident shows a man smashing passing vehicles with the weapon as he repeatedly runs across Scarborough Beach Rd.
Motorists can be seen swerving and mounting kerbs in order to avoid the man as he takes swings at the passing vehicles.
Mr Males was arrested days later and charged with four counts of criminal damage or destruction of property.
He was due to face Perth Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday, but court officials said Mr Males would not be appearing as he had been labelled a Covid close contact.
He’s being held in Hakea Prison, where there was a Covid outbreak over Christmas, and is now among a number of other prisoners having their court dates pushed back over potential Covid infections.
No one was harmed in the December 26 incident, but up to six vehicles were damaged.
